Safe, Modern Digital X-rays for Kids
At Sky Pediatric Dentistry, we use state-of-the-art digital radiography to keep your child’s smile healthy while minimizing exposure to radiation. Unlike traditional X-rays, digital X-rays capture images using an electronic sensor—instantly displaying detailed images on our 21.5” desktop Macs in each treatment room. This allows our pediatric dentist and hygienist to identify concerns quickly and explain what they see, right alongside your child!
Why Are Dental X-rays Important?
Digital X-rays are essential diagnostic tools because they reveal issues our eyes can’t see during a regular exam. They help us detect:
- Cavities hidden between teeth
- Abscesses or cysts
- Impacted or poorly positioned teeth
- Bone loss or developmental issues
- Problems beneath the gums or inside teeth
Catching these issues early can save you time, prevent discomfort, and even protect your child from more serious complications.
Are Digital X-rays Safe for Children?
Yes! Digital radiography offers up to 90% LESS radiation than traditional film X-rays. In addition:
- Faster, more comfortable: No long waits for film to develop.
- Eco-friendly: No chemicals or waste from developing X-rays.
- Precautionary: We use protective lead aprons and only recommend X-rays when necessary for diagnosis or treatment planning.
How Often Does My Child Need X-rays?
Every child is unique! Dr. Ashley will determine how often X-rays are needed based on your child’s age, dental history, risk for cavities, and overall oral health. Some kids may need them every 6-12 months, while others may need them less frequently.
Rest assured, we’re committed to keeping your child safe while giving them the best care possible!
