Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric dentistry (formerly known as Pedodontics) primarily focuses on children from birth through adolescence. The American Dental Association (ADA), recognizes pediatric dentistry as a specialty, and therefore requires dentists to undertake two years of additional training after completing a general dentistry degree. At the end of this training, the Pediatric Dental Residency program issues a Certificate of Pediatric Dentistry. Some Pediatric Dental Residency Programs have an additional requirement of a Masters thesis project. Bowling Green pediatric dentist Dr. Mandy Ashley completed her Pediatric Dental Residency at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and completed her Masters in Science thesis at The Ohio State University. Some pediatric dentists, like Dr. Ashley, opt to provide dental care for children and adults with special needs; including people with autism, varying levels of physical and or mental disability, cerebral palsy, cleft lip and palate or cranio-facial syndrome and other special healthcare needs.

Whether your child's dental needs are a complete exam and cleaning, a full-mouth restoration, or anything in between, we promise to provide your child with exceptional pediatric dental care in a fun, modern dental office.  Below are just some of the many procedures and services we regularly provide to our patients – with a mom's gentle touch and beautiful results.  Your child's smile is our first priority, and we’ll strive to give parents and kids a positive experience at our office!

One of the most important components of pediatric dentistry is child psychology. Pediatric dentists are trained to create a friendly, fun, social atmosphere for children, and always avoid threatening words like “shot,” “needle,” and “injection.” We kindly ask parents to please avoid using these potentially fear-inducing words. Dental phobias beginning in childhood often continue into adulthood, so it is of paramount importance that children have positive experiences and find their “dental home” as early as possible.

If you have any questions, concerns, or would like to schedule an appointment, please contact us today. We look forward to providing your child with the personalized care they deserve.

Sincerely,Sky Pediatric Dentistry Bowling Green KY
